Something About A Lot

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

The following is a guest blog from one of my best friends, Matt:

One of the smartest people I have ever known once told me: “An educated person should know a lot about something and something about a lot.” As an example of an uneducated person, he referred to a gentleman with a Ph.D. who had read every book in any literary canon but didn’t know who Michael Jackson was.

Not only does cultural expansion increase knowledge, but it also tremendously broadens the opportunity for human relationships and interaction. Once you visit a city, town or country, then for the rest of your life, you have a conversation starter whenever you meet someone from that area. Similarly, you can have a great discussion with a coworker about the subtleties of Mad Men or enjoy a laugh with a friend after watching South Park. Then of course there is the power of music to get you through a tough workday, workout, or just to put you in the holiday mood.

We understand there are myriad resources from which people can learn the information we have here. We do not intend to fully replace those sources. However, in a world where access to music, movies, and information has become almost unlimited, we hope we can provide some guidance to save you a little time and effort. After all, the less time you spend researching for quality information, the more time you have to enjoy life, whether that means traveling abroad, throwing a party, or relaxing with a good book.

Undoubtedly, not everyone will share our opinions but that’s the nature of art and opinion. We hope we can be a quality resource for you even if only for a single idea.

Sincerely,

Matt & Janie
